Forged Connections
Artist Lecture Series: All ages welcome!
Forged Connections is the Metal Museum’s after-hours conversation series exploring how metal connects art, people, place, and everyday life. Each month, artists, metalsmiths, scholars, community partners, and professionals from fields such as engineering, design, public art, preservation, and city planning come together for accessible conversations about the role metal plays in our communities. From jewelry and sculpture to bridges, buildings, tools, and public spaces, Forged Connections invites lifelong learners to look more closely at the material world around them.
Storytime
Ages 3-7 (+guardian) *Spaces are limited, please register in advance!
Bring your little one for a fun morning of reading and hands-on activities! Storytime takes place on the second Saturday of each month.
S.T.E.A.M. Saturday
Ages 6-10 (+ guardian) *Spaces are limited, please register in advance!
S.T.E.A.M. Saturdays invites young learners to explore the worlds of science, technology, engineering, art, and math through hands-on fun! Held on the first Saturday of each month beginning this fall at the Metal Museum at Overton Park, each session combines creative artmaking with simple science activities inspired by metalwork.
Forging the Future
High school students, ages 15-18
Forging the Future is the Metal Museum’s afterschool welding program for high school students. Students create metal artworks, learn real studio skills, and build a path to paid creative work. After completing the program, students will leave with employable skills, such as tool care and quality standards, as well as a starter portfolio. They’ll also gain a clear view of local training pathways and creative careers in metals.
Metal Makers Teen Council
Ages 12-17
Metal Makers Teen Council is a leadership program for teen makers. Teen Council members meet twice a month after school during each academic year. Together with Metal Studio and Education staff, students design and lead youth programming, organize exhibitions of peer-created work, and advise on after-school events for their peers. Students also explore Museum operations, including providing input on exhibitions and educational programming, and learning about metalworking processes and fabrication in real-world studio settings.
